Project Overview
The DER Node BESS Network consists of a network of sub utility BESS assets around the country. These BESS assets provide important redundancy and smoothing capabilities for the grid, as well as greater energy support to metro and rural centres.
Node BESS is CEP Energy's portfolio of standalone <5MW / 20MWh battery energy storage systems, connected directly to distribution networks across regional Australia. Each asset is designed to charge when energy is abundant and dispatch when the network needs it most — stabilising the grid, reducing network costs, and supporting greater renewable generation capacity.
The portfolio comprises approximately 30 sites delivered across three phases, providing a fast-to-deploy, scalable solution that supports both local communities and Australia's broader energy transition.
Why distribution-connected storage
As renewable generation grows, grid stability challenges are increasingly playing out on the distribution network — not the transmission grid. Node BESS is built to address that directly.Compared to large-scale transmission-connected batteries, Node BESS offers:
- Faster approvals and simpler planning pathways
- Compact sites with lower land use and environmental footprint
- Targeted network support close to where it's needed
