Project Overview

The proposed Wollondilly Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be located near Transgrid’s Bannaby Terminal Station in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales.

The project will deliver up to 500 MW / 2,000 MWh of energy storage with a direct connection to the Bannaby Terminal Station.

Developed to provide reliable firming capacity for variable renewables, the Wollondilly BESS will contribute to a more secure and affordable energy future for New South Wales. Construction is targeted for mid-to-late 2028 (subject to approvals and final investment decision). The project will create local jobs, stimulate regional investment, and deliver lasting economic benefits to the Southern Tablelands community.

Impact on the Region:

The Wollondilly BESS will create jobs during construction and ongoing  management of the site as well as providing load smoothing and enhanced energy capacity.The site will support affordable power to local residents and consumers in regions including Sydney, the South Coast and Hume.
